Veiled Chameleon, (Chamaeleo calyptratus), sub adult male. People absolutely love chameleons, but as much as some stores will tell you they make a great pet for kids, they really are not as easy as you could be led to believe. The great majority do not like to be handled, and stressing them out greatly reduces the life span. They absolutely must be misted daily, as well as having a dripper system set up. They can dehydrate very quickly and must be observed on a daily basis to make sure that they are taking in water. They are omnivores and will happily eat live plants that you put in their cage, so make sure that there are no pesticides, fertilizers, or perlite in the soil of the non toxic plant that you put in to their home. Also female veileds need to be watched, as egg binding can be an issue with them.
